You generally cannot use these reward cars for purchases like fuel where you pay at the pump because the station puts a hold or a credit check on the card. Normally if you go in and tell them to put $20 on the card then it is treated as a simple $20 transaction.
Also, with these reward cards and online merchants, when you go to buy something, the merchant places a hold for something like $1 on the card to verify that it is a good card and that they can ship the merch. This will reduce the amount available for you to use toward the purchase. I've bought 3-4 of these printers with rebates before and found that as long as I made my last charge for $1 under the card value that I never had an issue. Typically I just pay some utility bills then let the balance sit there for a few weeks for all transactions to be reported then make the final purchase for $1 less than the remaining value of the card and everything goes perfect.

Interesting because the current rebate form on Canon's webpage claims American Express.

ID 8191502 and it clearly states Mastercard.

Just wanted to add, I received my MasterCard Reward card from Canon last week and it was very easy to use. Paid a few bills and extracted the remaining balance to an amazon gift card.
Does anyone know if Canon runs this type of rebate deal on any other printers than the pixma pro lineup? Thanks.

Rebates come and go at various times with the other PRO-series, but offered less frequently.
Similar rebates will occasionally come along, but they're nowhere near the final-price cost
of less than half price for a full ink set as the PRO-100 deal.
Don't know about their more mainstream printers.
I do know they'll offer direct sale prices; as for rebates, maybe.
Retail outlets might offer sales more frequently than Canon,
or vise-versa. I've never paid much attention to that market segment
in general to offer more info.
